'Contentment' receives 3rd Place honors.

“This is a challenging piece. It demands your attention.”

My mixed-media painting, ‘Contentment’, from my Seedling Collection received 3rd Place honors in the Mid-Michigan Art Guild Fall Member Show at the Neighborhood Empowerment Center. The show runs through January 6th, 2021 and was judged by Robyn Bomhof.

Robyn is an artist and lecturer living in Grand Rapids Michigan. her work has been shown both regionally and nationally with many awards and several best in show awards. She is outgoing president of grand Valley Artists Association. She has taught at Kendall College of Art and design, Western Michigan University and been guest lecturer at Grand Valley State University. She has also been a curator and site manager for Artprize.

Here is what Robyn had to say about ‘Contentment’.

“Stunning marriage of concept, scale, impact, and intent. Clarity of purpose married risk-taking and extreme economy of the hand, speaks directly and powerfully of original idea apart from befuddlement.”

Creative Placemaking Summit 6

I’m so honored to have been invited to provide a live interactive art-making experience throughout the virtual Creative Placemaking Summit 6. From very beginning stages to framed artwork, this mixed-media painting was created live on camera over the course of about 4 hours. Connecting virtually with a bunch of amazing people during the creation process was such an inspiration. Now, I present "I Am Lansing" (Title taken, in part from the text in the background, of course! Treasure hunt!)

Limited edition fine art prints are available to purchase now!

Lansing Made 517 Celebration 2020 TV Show

My husband Daniel J. Hogan and I were honored to be able to sit down with our friend Metro Melik during the Lansing Made 517 Celebration 2020 TV Show to talk about our art and our favorite things about the Lansing area. The broadcast originally aired on Fox-47 WSYM in the fall of 2020 and featured highlights of all the incredible things our area has to offer, from arts and culture to local businesses, organizations and personalities.

Tune in around the 1 hour 30 minute mark to watch me REALLY nerd out about the Potter Park Zoo!

How Greater Lansing artists are surviving the coronavirus pandemic

‘Visual artist Steph Joy Hogan has also had to move her work online — a major change as she primarily displayed and sold her artwork through recurring community live events, like Arts Nights Out.

“Since March, I have worked hard to adapt my art business to an e-commerce model,” Hogan said. “I have invested heavily in developing a beautiful website to showcase my artwork and deliver it to a wider audience. Additionally, I’ve sought out tools to streamline and improve my social media presence, develop an email newsletter and I completed an intensive business course geared toward artists.”’

My artist husband Daniel J. Hogan and I were interviewed for the City Pulse Artist Edition cover story by Skyler Ashley.

East Lansing Art Festival Goes Virtual for the First Time in 57 Years

“A successful festival season requires so much preparation” she said. “First and foremost is usually creating the artwork, but there is also a significant time and money investment in less glamorous things like framing and packaging, designing displays, developing marketing materials, creating inventory lists and price tags, making travel arrangements as necessary and making sure you have absolutely everything you will need to create memorable experiences for your collectors during each show.”

My artist husband Daniel J. Hogan and I were featured in this lovely article by Sarah Spohn on East Lansing Info.
