Welcome to ScrapFest 14!
ScrapFest began as a scrap metal artwork competition, and has evolved into a full art festival that focuses on up-cycled and repurposed artwork. Now, along with the scrap metal sculpture competition, ScrapFest also has eco-art booth artisans, family activities, live music, food, The Great Scrap Run 8k run/walk (with family fun run), a Refashion Show that focuses on garments made from scrap fabric, and a documentary series that focuses on the artists in the sculpture competition! LOGO
We took a different approach with our logo this year! We decided to use one of the sculptures from last year as the inspiration for this year. Inspired by "Perfection is the Enemy of Progress" by T.L.Guenther -- a human head gazing upward with stems sprouting from the top of it -- we imagined a human made of metal, spawning from scrap metal, gazing upward with stems sprouting and turning into flowers; a phoenix-like portrayal of new life forming from what once was.
Please check the discussion section of this event for more details on T.L.Guenther and her sculpture from last year. Many thanks to T.L.Guenther for allowing us to be inspired by her work!
CHARITY PARTNER
Our charity partner this year is Lansing SAVE!
Lansing SAVE is a post-secondary education savings program for the Lansing School District. In the fall semester, all incoming kindergarten students are automatically enrolled in an account at the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU).
Parents, guardians, and students can contribute throughout elementary, middle, and high school at any MSUFCU branch or during monthly financial education lessons, provided by MSUFCU. Students may use their Lansing SAVE accounts after high school graduation for any post-secondary education, such as college or a training program for the skilled trades. Lansing SAVE complements the Lansing Promise scholarship programs to prepare our students for post-secondary education opportunities.

10% of sculpture sales from the silent auction, along with registrations for the Great Scrap Run, will go to Lansing SAVE.
