Despite the ever-changing environment around us, one fact remains true: it is vital that we nurture creativity and that creative placemaking is still a movement deeply-ingrained in our communities. Therefore the Arts Council of Greater Lansing is pleased to invite you to attend our Creative Placemaking Summit 6 Virtual+ event! Our focus for 2020 is on honoring connections. That's what creative placemaking is all about, and it will be at the heart of this year's event. Not only are we exploring the way we connect with the places we call home, but how we connect with each other, especially now.

Making a Place: A Live Interactive Art-Making Experience

Watch the creative process unfold as artist Steph Joy Hogan builds a 2-dimensional world with your input. Inspired by her most recent art collection, this detailed ‘Scrapscape’ will be created in her minimal-waste studio by combining found paper ephemera, including maps, book pages, brochures (any type of discarded print materials) with scraps from other studio projects and special "paint pages” created with excess paint left on brushes and palettes. Layered with acrylic paints and inks, this mixed-media painting will explore the idea of intentional placemaking and tell the story of one possible world we’d like to create.
